Lieutenant Commander Victor Alonzo Prather Jr. was an American flight surgeon renowned for his contributions to Project RAM, a government initiative aimed at developing space suit technology. Unfortunately, he died on May 4, 1961, after drowning during a helicopter transfer following the successful landing of the Strato-Lab V balloon flight, which achieved a record altitude for manned balloon flights that remained unbroken until 2012.
