Victoria Glendinning is an English biographer, critic, broadcaster, and author born on April 23, 1937, in Sheffield. She comes from a Quaker family and studied modern languages at Somerville College, Oxford. Glendinning has held positions as honorary vice-president of English PEN and vice-president of the Royal Society of Literature. She has won the Whitbread Prize for Biography twice and the James Tait Black Memorial Prize for her biography of Edith Sitwell. In recognition of her contributions, she was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1998.
