Despite reports and eyewitness accounts suggesting his capture, India and Pakistan have disputed the circumstances, leading to confusion about his fate, making him one of the 54 missing Indian defense personnel from the war. He has remained a figure of significant interest regarding the war's unresolved prisoners of war issue.
