Vikas Gowda is an Indian discus thrower and shot putter born on July 5, 1983, in Mysore, India. He grew up in Frederick, Maryland, USA, where his father, Shiv, was a coach for the Indian Olympic track team in 1988. A former student of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, he became the NCAA national champion in discus throw in 2006. He holds the Indian national record with a personal best throw of 66.28 meters, achieved in 2012. Gowda has participated in the 2008 and 2012 Olympics and won gold in discus at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
