Viking Mestad (1930-2013) was a Norwegian banker and politician for the Liberal Party. He earned a cand.jur. degree in 1955 and joined the Bank of Norway in 1962, becoming director of the board's secretariat in 1986 until retirement in 1995. He served as State Secretary in the Ministry of Government Administration and Consumer Affairs from 1972-1973 and was involved with the Oslo city council. Mestad advocated for Nynorsk and chaired the theatre Det Norske Teatret from 1977-1997. He was honored as an honorary member of the Association of Norwegian Theatres and Orchestras after retirement.
