Viktor Afanasyev, also known as Monk Lazarus, was a Russian poet, writer, and literary critic born on May 20, 1932, in Moscow. He became a member of the Union of Soviet Writers in 1971 and authored biographical books about 19th-century Russian poets. Since the 1990s, he primarily focused on themes related to Orthodoxy. He took monastic vows in 1999 and passed away on March 5, 2015, in Moscow.
