Before becoming a full-time writer, Ingólfsson worked in the field of communication management for over twenty years. His breakthrough came with his third novel published in 1998. He currently resides in Reykjavik, is married, and has one daughter and one stepdaughter. His stories inspired the creation of the television series 'Mannaveiðar' directed by Björn Br. Björnsson in 2008.
