Born on April 15, 1936, in Kurasovka, Курская область, he became a notable figure in the sport, earning the title of Honored Master of Sports in 1963. He was a five-time world champion and an eight-time champion of the USSR. He also served as a category referee from 1980. Shehovtsov passed away on August 7, 1993, in Yekaterinburg, Russia.
