Safonova developed the concept and theoretical foundations of a sociocultural approach to teaching foreign languages. She is a professor at Lomonosov Moscow State University's Department of Linguistics, Translation, and Intercultural Communication, and has been the General Director of the Euroshcool Research Center since 1998, participating in international projects since 1993.
