He was a stepfather and coach to Swedish high jumper Patrik Sjöberg, as well as coaching other Swedish athletes like Christian Olsson and Yannick Tregaro. He studied at the Finnish Sports Institute in Jyväskylä and had a notable talent for perceiving movement, rhythm, and coordination in his students. In 2011, allegations of sexual abuse by Sjöberg and others came to light, profoundly impacting his legacy.
