Vinjar Magne Fønnebø is a professor of preventive medicine at the University of Tromsø and was the director of NAFKAM, the National Research Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, from its inception in 2000 until March 31, 2020. He is a trained physician with a master's degree in epidemiology. He defended his medical doctorate at the University of Tromsø and contributed to the NOU report on alternative medicine in 1998. Fønnebø is a seventh-day Adventist, teetotaler, and vegetarian but has faced criticism for not rejecting creationism.
