Violet L. Fisher is a retired bishop in The United Methodist Church, who became the first African-American woman elected to the episcopacy in the Northeast Jurisdiction. Elected and consecrated in 2000, she served as Bishop of the Western and North Central New York Annual Conference from 2000 to 2008. Fisher graduated with a BS from Bowie State University in 1962, followed by a M. Ed. from George Washington University in 1978, a D. D. from Baltimore College of Bible in 1984, and an M. Div. from Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1988.
