Violet Renice Palmer, born on July 20, 1964, is a retired American basketball referee known for her groundbreaking role as the first female official in the NBA and WNBA. Reaching the highest competitive level in a major U.S. sports league, she officiated her first NBA playoff game on April 25, 2006. Palmer was also a member of two NCAA Division II women's championship basketball teams. She wore uniform number 12 during her officiating career and retired in 2016.
