Virgilijus Alekna is a retired Lithuanian discus thrower and politician, born on February 13, 1972. He achieved Olympic success by winning medals at the 2000, 2004, and 2008 Games, including two gold medals. After retiring from athletics, he was elected to the national parliament, Seimas, in 2016. Alekna is also a father to three children: Martynas Alekna, world record holder Mykolas Alekna, and Gabrielė Aleknaite.
