Virgilio S. Almario, also known as Rio Alma, is a prominent Filipino artist, author, poet, critic, translator, editor, educator, and cultural manager. Born on March 9, 1944, he has been honored as a National Artist of the Philippines. Currently, he serves as the head of the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino (Commission on the Filipino Language), a government agency promoting the use of the Filipino language. On January 5, 2017, he was elected as chairman of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA).
