Vít Kolář is a Czech journalist born on January 17, 1951, in Šumperk. He graduated from the Faculty of Journalism at Charles University in Prague. In 1983, he emigrated to Great Britain and joined the BBC in 1984. From 1999 to 2006, he served as the editor-in-chief of the Czech section of BBC World Service. He received the Karel Havlíček Borovský Award in 2006 and was honored with the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2007. He has a daughter and two sons from previous marriages.
