Vivian Solomons was a South African history teacher, education inspector, Afrikaans actor, and TV presenter, born on September 19, 1952. He gained recognition in the late 1970s and early 1980s for his performances in plays such as Athol Fugard's 'Statements After an Arrest Under the Immorality Act' and Adam Small's 'Kanna, Hy Kô Hystoe'. On July 6, 1983, he became the first coloured presenter on the previously 'white' channel TV1. Solomons tragically died on April 13, 1984, shortly after a car accident, amid controversy regarding his race during hospitalization.
