Vladimir Kren was a major general and commander of the Air Force of the Independent State of Croatia during World War II. Earlier an officer in the Royal Yugoslav Air Force, he defected to Nazi Germany in 1941, aiding in the destruction of the VVKJ. He commanded the ZNDH until 1943, returned in 1944, and fled to Italy in 1945. Arrested by Allied forces, he escaped but was recaptured and extradited to Yugoslavia, where he was tried and executed in December 1948.
