He served as a tank commander during World War II and was recognized as a Hero of the Soviet Union for his valor. Throughout the Great Patriotic War, he was credited with destroying 23 enemy tanks and self-propelled guns before his death on September 13, 1955, in Tbilisi, Georgian SSR.
