The investigative committee revealed that Leonid Nevzlin, first vice-president of Yukos, ordered Petukhov's killing, which was carried out by Alexey Pichugin, a Yukos security officer. Petukhov was a prominent figure in local politics during a turbulent time in Russia's post-Soviet history.
