Vladimir Ivanovich Stopichev, born August 25, 1948, in Novosibirsk, is a renowned Russian violist and educator. He received his musical education at a Special Music School, the Leningrad Conservatory, and postgraduate studies under Professor Yu. M. Kramarov. From 1970 to 1991, he was a distinguished member of the Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra and won the first prize at the ARD International Viola Competition in Munich in 1971. He teaches at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory and has served as the dean of its orchestral faculty since 2010.
