Vladimiro Montesinos (born May 20, 1946) was the head of Peru's intelligence service during President Alberto Fujimori's administration. He became embroiled in scandals involving bribery and drug trafficking, leading to his escape from Peru in 2000. Initially fleeing to Panama, his asylum request was denied, and he later ended up in Venezuela, where he was captured in 2001. Montesinos was extradited to Peru, tried, and sentenced to 15 years in prison for various crimes, including corruption and drug trafficking.
