He studied at various art schools in Bratislava, Prague, and Belgrade, and continued his education at a university in Sofia. In 1946, he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. Matušinec focused on both chamber and monumental art, drawing inspiration from Slovak history and ethnographic themes.
