Voramai Kabilsingh was the first fully ordained female Buddhist monk (Bhikkhuni) in Thailand. She was ordained in Taiwan in 1971 and led Thailand’s first nunnery, Wat Songdhammakalyani, until her death in 2003. Known as ‘Luang Ya’ by her followers, she played a significant role in promoting Buddhism and women's ordination in Thailand, establishing a legacy for female monasticism in the country.
