Vyacheslav Mikhailovich Karpenko (born 1938 in Kharkov, Russia) is a writer and translator. He graduated from the Leningrad Naval Fleet School and Leningrad State University. Karpenko has worked in geological expeditions and on fishing ships in the North Atlantic, and at research stations in the Tien Shan mountains. He served as the editor for the newspaper 'Kaliningradskij Komsomolets' and was a literary worker for several publications. He is known for compiling and authoring the collection 'Lick Zemli' (Surface of the Earth) and translating works of Kazakh writers into Russian.
