William David Kingery was an American materials scientist born on July 7, 1926, in White Plains, New York. He specialized in ceramic materials and obtained his Bachelor's in Chemistry from MIT in 1948, followed by a Ph.D. in 1950. He became a full professor at MIT in 1962 and later served as a professor at the University of Arizona. Kingery engaged in both scientific study of materials and artistic ceramic craft, earning recognition as a member of various distinguished academies and receiving several awards, including the Kyoto Prize in 1999.
