Wacław Sonelski, born on February 23, 1947, in Bytom, Poland, is a prominent Polish mountaineer, alpinist, and caver. He is associated with climbing and caving clubs in Gliwice and serves as an alpine instructor. Sonelski participated in expeditions to Makalu in 1982 and Dhaulagiri in the 1984/85 season, where notable first winter ascents occurred. He has also contributed to the climbing community as an editor of the climbing magazine 'Bularz' and authored alpine guides, including 'W skale – zasady alpinizmu', as well as co-translated Joe Simpson's 'Touching the Void'.
