Wali Khan Babar was a Pakistani journalist for GEO News, born on April 5, 1982. He was murdered on January 13, 2011, in Karachi by gunmen linked to the MQM. His death highlighted the dangers faced by journalists in Pakistan, deemed the deadliest country for them in 2010. Initially, his murderers, Saulat Mirza and Faisal Mota, were sentenced to death in 2015, while four others were later convicted for the crime. Babar was notably recognized by the Committee to Protect Journalists as the first confirmed journalist killed in a work-related incident in 2011.
