Walter E. Burkemo (1918-1986) was an American professional golfer known for winning the 1953 PGA Championship. He began his golf career at age 8 caddying at Lochmoor Country Club in Detroit. Drafted into the U.S. Army during World War II, he served in Europe and was wounded twice. After the war, he achieved significant success in the early 1950s, including multiple Michigan Open wins and a place on the Ryder Cup team. Burkemo returned to club pro life after 1954, subsequently opening a driving range, and was inducted into various golf halls of fame.
