Walter Edgar Harris was a distinguished Canadian analytical chemist and academic born on June 9, 1915. He completed his Bachelor and Master of Science degrees at the University of Alberta and earned a PhD in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Minnesota during World War II. After returning to the University of Alberta in 1946, he served as a professor until 1980 and chaired the Chemistry Department from 1974 to 1980. In recognition of his contributions, he became a Member of the Order of Canada in 1998. He passed away on October 21, 2011.
