Walter Grün is an Austrian geologist born on February 20, 1940, in Vienna. He received his doctorate in geology from the University of Vienna in 1968. Following his graduation, he worked as an assistant at the Geological Institute of the University of Vienna from 1968 to 1969, then at the Geological Institute of the University of Bern from 1969 to 1973. In 1974, he began his career as a geologist at the Austrian Mineral Oil Administration in Vienna.
