Walter Houser Brattain was an American physicist who, along with John Bardeen and William Shockley, was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1956 for the invention of the transistor. He made significant contributions to the study of surface states of materials. His work laid the groundwork for modern electronics and he is remembered as a pioneer in the field of semiconductor physics.
