Walter Kappacher (October 24, 1938 - May 24, 2024) was an Austrian novelist, short story writer, and screenwriter. He won several prestigious literary awards in German, including the Georg Büchner Prize in 2009 for his lifetime achievements. Kappacher began writing after 1964 and published his first short stories in 1967. In 1978, after turning forty, he decided to leave his job and become a freelance writer. He created a body of work that includes a series of short stories, novels, radio plays, and television scripts.
