Walter Köhnlein is a German educator and university professor, born on February 16, 1936, in Nuremberg. From 1980 to 2001, he led the new area of Didactics of Subject Studies at the University of Hildesheim. Since 1993, he has been the director at the Institute for Primary Education Didactics and Subject Studies, focusing on both the theory and practice of subject education, as well as researching children's early scientific thinking and the pedagogical works of Martin Wagenschein. He co-founded the Society for Didactics of Subject Studies (GDSU) and served as its first chairman from 1992 to 1997.
