Walter Mayer was a German physicist known for his pioneering work in radio and television technology. From 1951 to 1991, he worked at Grundig, where he developed various devices in television and video technology, including the first television station in southern Germany, video cameras, and video recorders. He created the first Grundig video cassette recorder based on the VCR system. In recognition of his inventions and 52 patents, he received the Rudolf Diesel Medal in Silver in 1977. He was honored as an honorary member of the Fürth Broadcasting Museum's support association in 2008.
