Walter Peitgen was a German local politician, born on March 15, 1915, in Distelkamp and passed away on May 8, 1990, in Bruch near Nümbrecht. He lived in Bruch from 1950 and served as the managing director of the Malzhagen Electric Cooperative. He was a member of the council for the FDP starting in 1961 and served as mayor of Nümbrecht from 1972 to 1984. Peitgen received the Federal Cross of Merit 1st Class in 1986, and a street in Nümbrecht was named in his honor. He is the father of mathematician Heinz-Otto Peitgen.
