Walter Pritchard was an American steeplechase runner and cardiologist, born on April 14, 1910, in Hancock, New York. He became the US runner-up in steeplechase and qualified for the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics, finishing eighth with a personal best time of 9:18.3 minutes. In 1947, he contributed to the first successful use of a defibrillator by Claude Beck. By 1960, he was appointed Argyl J. Beams Professor of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University, combining his athletic prowess with a significant medical career.
