Walter Philip Reuther (September 1, 1907 - May 9, 1970) was an influential American labor leader and civil rights activist known for his work with the United Auto Workers (UAW), which became one of the most progressive labor unions in American history. He viewed labor movements as tools for advancing social justice and human rights. Throughout his career, he advocated for workers' rights, civil rights, women's rights, universal healthcare, and environmental protection. A prominent ally of Martin Luther King Jr. and a significant player in the Democratic Party, he tragically died in a plane crash.
