Walter Schmidt (born December 29, 1920, in Sighișoara, Romania) is a former outdoor handball player and coach. He began his sports career in handball, transitioning to football after an arm injury. After World War II, he helped establish a new handball team in Sighișoara and achieved national championship titles. He later coached the women’s team and was part of Romania’s national women's coaching staff. Schmidt emigrated to West Germany in 1983, settling in Gummersbach with his wife Liane and their three children.
