Carl August Walther Sommerlath was a German businessman, born on January 22, 1901, in Heidelberg. He is best known as the father of Queen Silvia of Sweden. Sommerlath worked in Brazil during the 1920s and married Brazilian Alice Soares de Toledo, with whom he had four children. A controversial figure due to his affiliation with the NSDAP and claims regarding his business acquisitions during the Nazi era, he has been the subject of documentaries and published investigations. He passed away on October 21, 1990, in his hometown.
