Her most notable achievements include winning the gold medal in the 5000m at the 1996 Summer Olympics and the silver in the 10000m at the same event. She also won the gold medal in the 10000m at the 1993 World Championships. Wang held the world record for the 10000m with a time of 29:31.78 minutes until 2016 and still holds the record for the 3000m.
