He served as the chief reporter for the Münchner Abendzeitung for 37 years and also taught at the Deutsche Journalistenschule. His reporting often took him abroad and to war zones, earning him multiple awards. Meyer actively raised funds for victims of crises he reported on. In 2004, he organized a notable exhibition on the Munich writer and journalist Siegfried Sommer at Monacensia.
