Erwin "Whitey" Thomas was an American jazz trumpeter born on June 29, 1920, in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. He was one of the last surviving members of the Glenn Miller Orchestra. Beginning his career in 1938, he joined the Trumpet Section of Glenn Miller and the Army Air Force Band during World War II, participating in recordings and troop entertainment. After Miller's death in 1944, he performed in various orchestras and was active in 264 recording sessions between 1943 and 1954. Thomas passed away on November 9, 2012, at the age of 92.
