Wijberig (Wijnie) Giphart-Jabaaij was a Dutch politician and educator born on April 13, 1939, in Dordrecht. She served as a member of the Dutch Parliament for the PvdA party from 1977 to 1989 and was a municipal council member in Dordrecht. Jabaaij was known for her unique protest against the Lubbers cabinets by wearing mourning clothes in Parliament and advocating for women and minorities. She suffered from Multiple Sclerosis and chose to end her life early after losing her ability to speak. She was the mother of authors Ronald and Karin Giphart.
