William Alfred Merchant (31 July 1919 – 26 May 2001) was an English dwarf clown known as "Little Billy". Abandoned at a young age, he grew up in a Bristol orphanage. Merchant, standing 42 inches tall, joined variety theatre troupes in the late 1930s and became a well-known performer alongside his partner, Jacko the Clown. After serving in WWII, he continued performing in major venues until retiring in 1979. He moved to Skegness in retirement and received a lifetime achievement award in 2000.
