In 1946, he confessed to committing three murders and earned the nickname 'The Lipstick Killer' for writing messages with lipstick at the crime scenes. Heirens is known for being one of the longest-serving prisoners globally, spending at least 63 years in incarceration, primarily at Dixon Correctional Center in Illinois. He later recanted his confession, claiming he was a victim of coercive interrogation and police brutality. His life inspired Fritz Lang's film 'While the City Sleeps.'
