As a professor of English at Nebraska Wesleyan University from 1962 until 1997, he later became a professor emeritus. Kloefkorn was appointed Nebraska's State Poet in 1982. He was born in Kansas and passed away in Lincoln, Nebraska. His legacy includes a Lincoln elementary school named in his honor.
