William Howard Guest Rees was a prominent veterinarian who served as the Chief Veterinary Officer of the UK from August 1980 to May 1988. He was born on 21 May 1928 in Llanelli and qualified as a vet in 1951. Rees dealt with significant veterinary issues such as salmonella in eggs and bovine spongiform encephalopathy in cattle during his tenure. After retiring in 1988, he became president of the World Organisation for Animal Health's animal health code commission and was honored as a Companion of the Order of the Bath in the 1988 New Year Honours.
