He gained fame for a lavish $200,000 anniversary party in 1985 and orchestrated a decadent funeral for his murdered son in 1984. Stokes was visually identified by his silk suits and diamond accessories. He was murdered in November 1986 at the age of 48, alongside his chauffeur, in a Cadillac limousine while using his wireless phone.
