William P. Turnesa was an accomplished American amateur golfer from Elmsford, New York, born on January 20, 1914. He is renowned for winning two U.S. Amateur championships and the British Amateur title in 1947. Willie was part of a prominent golfing family, known as a 'golf dynasty,' with six brothers, all golfers. He was the only brother who did not turn professional. He graduated from Holy Cross in 1938 and had a significant amateur career, including winning numerous events and serving as captain of the Walker Cup team.
